Meet the Team of Counsellors

Hi, I’m Sinead

I’m a fully qualified Counsellor and Psychotherapist and an accredited member of IACP. I am committed to providing a professional and caring service. People come to counselling to explore many different issues such as: depression, anxiety, addiction, personal development, mental health, bereavement, stress management and trauma. Counselling can help to explore issues in your life and bring about more clarity in a supportive and safe space. I provide a space free from judgment where clients can come to talk and work through their concerns. I understand the importance of building a strong and trusting therapeutic relationship where clients can begin to heal.

Qualifications:

  • BA in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy
  • SAOR Certificate in Screening and Brief Interventions for problem substance use
  • ASSIST Certificate - Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training
  • Professional Certificate in the Therapeutic use of Mindfulness
  • QQI Certificate in Training Delivery and Evaluation
  • Certificate in Children First
  • Certificate in CBT
  • Kleinian Psychoanalysis - Member of the Kleinian Association of Ireland
  • Certificate in The Rewind Technique - technique for the treatment of trauma.

Experience:

  • I worked for 2 years with Teenline Ireland as a helpline volunteer. I supported teens all over the country by providing a safe space that they could come to talk without being told what to do or feeling judged.
  • I worked for 1 year with Bodywhys supporting people who are struggling with eating disorders and their friends and family. I worked as a volunteer support group facilitator and email support.
  • I worked with The Village Counselling Service offering low cost counselling to the local area.
  • I have previous experience in training and I use my knowledge to provide workshops on different areas of personal development and well-being.
  • I worked with The Institute for Integrative Counselling & Psychotherapy as a Teaching Assistant, helping student counsellors to develop their counselling skills.

These experiences have come to teach me that everyone needs support at some stage in their life and I want to be part of reducing the stigma around getting support for mental health and making it part of the everyday conversation.

"I attended Sinead for counselling for 11 months. The environment that Sinead provides for her sessions is calm and comfortable which is important to me as i suffer from vertigo. The colour in the room is calming and airy. Sinead is a professional and warm person who displays empathy with her expressions and has a very calming presence. She is an excellent listener. I would be relating an experince to her and she would reflect back to me somehing i had said months previously and I would be able to fit the pieces together in my head and understand my feelings to a much deeper level than ever before. I began to see patterns in my life that Sinead would guide me through. If there were times when I found it difficult to talk through the anxiety Sinead would do gentle relaxing techniques with me. I have been to counselling at other times in my life but i have never reached the level of understanding myself and how my mind works as much as I did with Sinead. I cannot recommend Sinead highly enough to anyone in need of counselling."

Louise

"Sinead is a kind, compassionate and understanding person who has helped me in unexplainable ways over the course of our work together. Not only does she put you completely at ease from the moment you meet but nothing you could ever say is too much for her to talk you through. She always helps you to reframe your thoughts and view things in a better light. Sinead is professional in all respects of the word but has a friendly manner that made our weekly sessions something I looked forward to. It was just like having a chat with your pal. I cannot recommend her enough. If you are going through a tough time, her kind, listening ear could be just what you need."

I use a variety of therapeutic approaches namely Person-Centred Therapy, CBT, and Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT).

Qualifications:

  • Professional Diploma in Integrative Counselling & Psychotherapy

  • BA in Sociology
  • Certificate in Mindfulness for Professional Practice
  • ASSIST - Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training

Experience:

  • I have spent 2 years working in The Village Counselling Service, providing counselling to people within the community.
  • I have worked for 3 years with a large Non Government Organisation, providing support and advocacy for those experiencing homelessness, and addiction.
  • I have experience facilitating peer support and psycho-education groups. I often facilitate groups with those who are in early recovery from substance misuse.
  • Most recently, I have begun creating and facilitating psycho-education groups in conjunction with fitness professionals, which focus on a mind & body approach to wellness, bringing awareness to the mental experiences & behaviours that could be impeding on a person’s progress.

Within the therapeutic space, I like to create a warm and safe environment for you to explore the hardships you are experiencing, while collaboratively discovering ways of working through this.

Róisín

Hi, I'm Róisín

As a fully accredited member of the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy I have experience counselling with community based counselling services, at a residential rehabilitation centre and in private practice.

My philosophy of counselling is to a large extent influenced by Carl Rogers who maintained that each of us is a person of inherent worth.  There is no one therapeutic model that suits everyone and effective counselling is, I believe, based on the strength of the relationship between the counsellor and the client. Working in an integrative way in a safe and compassionate space, I support my clients as they journey towards finding more peace and fulfilment in their lives and becoming who they were created to be. I have worked with a diverse range of issues including relationship conflicts, work related issues, stress and anxiety, trauma, loss, low esteem, clients seeking to overcome addictions and clients with current or previous criminal convictions

Qualifications:

  • BA in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy
  • Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy
  • Certificate in Addiction Studies
  • SAOR Certificate in Screening and Brief Interventions for problem substance use
  • Smart Recovery trained facilitator
  • Trauma Consciousness and Resiliency
  • Certificate in Children First

Experience:

  • I spent 2 years working with Oasis Counselling Centre in Ballyfermot
  • I spent 6 years as a keyworker and counsellor in a residential rehabilitation centre which included a step down facility
  • For 6 years I have worked with a not for profit charity which seeks to equip unemployed people with the skills and confidence to overcome barriers to securing appropriate work
  • Since February 2020 I have been the Volunteer Secretary on the Dublin Regional Committee of the IACP arranging regular member CPD and networking events
  • Group facilitation experience with several charities
  • Member of CIPN (Counselling in Prisons Network) with experience of working therapeutically with those who have a criminal conviction inside and outside the prison environment
  • Experience of and adherence to IACP’s criteria for use of online platforms for the provision of counselling

Marina

Online Counselling

Hi, I'm Marina

I'm an Integrative Counsellor/Psychotherapist. I'm also an Equine-assisted Learning Counsellor/Facilitator and artist. I combine these skill sets to create a very unique and creative psycho-therapeutic experience. I also have experience of working with groups from self-development with horses to addiction recovery aftercare programs.

I have worked with a variety of clients dealing with circumstances that are unique to their life experiences of anxiety, sadness, uncertainty, grief, loss, abandonment, addiction, trauma, co-dependency, coercion, sexuality, identity and spiritual separateness.

Meeting with new clients and deepening the therapeutic relationship is an enriching part of this work. Seeing people reclaim their lives, developing a more authentic sense of themselves and learning to respond to what they have experienced in the past and their present-day needs are the essence of why I am motivated to be a therapist.

I believe the healing power of relationship, connection, acceptance and unconditional positive regard helps people to work through what they are unsure about (pre-contemplation) and gain a greater understanding of their life experiences (contemplation) past and present.

During the counselling sessions, I collaboratively and creatively work with my clients, helping them explore their life challenges, strengths, limitations, and personal resources. Clients gain a new sense of themselves, connecting with what is important to them, achieving tasks, setting goals, and creating opportunities to meet their life differently.

Qualifications:

  • QQI Level 6 in Equine Assisted Learning Facilitation
  • Diploma in Fine Art

“Counselling has helped me overcome challenges at work, Marina helped me see myself and helped put me in my world. I went from not being seen, afraid to stand-up for myself to recognising what my wants and needs are. Thank you, Marina, for helping me understand that I am worth seeing and how to stay the course”.

“I fought so hard against anxiety I did not want it; I could not even say I had anxiety, like I was failing. Marina helped me find peace with the worries I had. The creative work we did helped me understand why I had these feelings in the first place. I have tools now to connect with myself and pay attention. I listen to my whole body now not just my head and the thoughts that would spiral”.

Counselling

How does counselling work?

Counselling is a collaborative effort between the client and therapist and sometimes parents (if the client is under 18). Counselling is not a 'one size fits all' process and so, your counsellor will tailor the therapy based on the client and your relationship. Your counsellor will work to develop a strong therapeutic relationship with you so that you can build trust and they will provide a non-judgemental safe space for you to work together. Our counsellors can use a mix of traditional and creative methods to enable you to work through problems and help you to learn new ways of responding to them. Our counsellors all frequently attend CPD courses and we all attend supervision regularly to ensure that we provide the best service possible.

We work with teens and their parents to build communication, we understand the importance of the teen-parent relationship and how it is vital for the well-being of a teenager and so we ask that parents work with us to better understand the issue and help your teen. So in addition to working with the teen one-to-one, we also work with the parents.

Benefits of group therapy:

  • Group therapy allows people to receive the support and encouragement of the other members of the group. People participating in the group can see that others are going through the same thing, which can help them feel less alone.
  • Group members can serve as role models for other members of the group. By observing someone successfully coping with a problem, other members of the group can see that there is hope for recovery.
  • Group therapy is often very affordable. Instead of focusing on just one client at a time, the therapist can devote their time to a much larger group of people which reduces the cost for participants.
  • Group therapy offers a safe space to practice behaviors and actions within the safety and security of the group.

Similar to 1-2-1 counselling, confidentiality is  a key component of group therapy.
