Counselling is a type of talk therapy where a client sits with a counsellor in a private and confidential setting. The counsellor is trained to help the client to explore the issues they are having in their life. I work closely with my clients to achieve agreed goals that we set together.
What to expect in the first session
The first session is a 'getting to know each other ' session. It is important that you find a therapist that you can work with and is right for you. It will include some paperwork and we will form an agreement around how we will work together, what we can expect from each other, fees and confidentiality. If you require help reading and writing that is no problem we can do it together.
Each person is different and so some client require more sessions than others to work through their issues. There is no set time period for everyone. Sessions are weekly at first but if things are going well some may choose to reduce to fortnightly.
We can work towards manageable goals that you hope to achieve in weeks or months. It is important to note that at the start of therapy, or after difficult sessions, you may experience an increase in your symptoms. This is common and can be worked through with me.
Each individual session is usually 50 minutes.
Confidentiality is maintained within the ethical and practice guidelines of the Irish Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and GDPR.
Private Counselling and Psychotherapy is currently not covered by medical cards. If you have a medical card ask your GP for more details.
€60 per individual session and €80 per couples session.
