Counselling is a type of talk therapy where a client works with a counsellor in a private and confidential setting. The Counsellor will work closely with the client to develop a relationship in which the client can explore issues in their life and gain clarity so as they can move thrower positive change. Many people use the terms “Counselling” and Psychotherapy in the same context however Counselling is usually a brief treatment that targets a specific symptom or situation, while “Psychotherapy” is a longer-term treatment that attempts to gain more insight into someone's problems.
Online Counselling, also known as teletherapy, e-therapy, e-counseling, or cyber-counseling, involves providing mental health services and support over the internet. Services can be offered through email, text messaging, video conferencing, online chat, messaging, or internet phone.
Teletherapy can occur in real-time, such as in phone conversations and text messaging, or in a time-delayed format, such as through email messages. The type of online counselling that we provide at Here4you Therapy is through Zoom (video chat) and phone.
The first session is a 'getting to know each other ' session. It is important that you find a Counsellor that you can work with and is right for you. It will include some paperwork and we will form an agreement around how we will work together, what we can expect from each other, fees and confidentiality. If you require help reading and writing that is no problem we can do it together.
Each person is different and so some client require more sessions than others to work through their issues. There is no set time period for everyone. Sessions are weekly until agreed otherwise.
It is important to note that at the start of therapy, or after difficult sessions, you may experience an increase in your symptoms. This is common and can be worked through with your Counsellor.
Each individual session is usually 50 minutes.
